Budapest

Truly, Budapest has not the same glance in romance or architecture then cities like Paris or Venice but most travellers are actually surprise once they first arrive. When a backpacker travels Europe he usually starts with some of the bigger cities such as Berlin, Rome, Paris or Madrid flying into one of the bigger airports and then moves on toward the east of Europe. Budapest is slightly away from that overwhelming charm and luxury but it does compete in its own way. Hungary has a couple of really nice lakes with resorts, rich wines and thermal spas. Budapest has an established café scene comparable with Vienna, Austria. In fact there are quite a few cultural overlaps with Austria as the border between the two countries shifted quite a few times over the past 100 years.

Budapest Accommodation

There is a number of low budget hotels and hostels scattered around the city centre of Pest and Buda, on both sides of the river. Budapest hotels in general over good value comparing to their prices and other big cities in Europe such as Rome or Paris. For as cheap as 8 Euro you might be able to book a bed in a dormitory hostel. But why not try out a 3 star hotel with breakfast and en-suite bathroom from around 45 Euro per night?
